A Life Lived In Activewear: How To Shop

activewear

As a yoga teacher and wellbeing blogger, I pretty much spend my life in activewear and could not be happier to see how the activewear industry has evolved over the last few years. When I first started my blogging journey, it was still pretty tough to find a good technical and well-fitting pair of leggings in a bright colour or with a snazzy pattern.

Now we’re spoilt for choice and I’m loving it. From lifestyle fitness wear to technical and functional pieces, there’s an item of clothing for any and every activity… including the luxurious leggings that you wear to brunch after working out… or is that just the women in the magazines?! 😉 Here are just a few little tips to help you on your next shopping trip for something stylish to sweat in.

PEEK-A-BOO!

I probably do this move every single day! Standing with your bum to the mirror, bending over to touch your toes (or as low as your can get) and checking what you can see. If it’s all legging then you’re all good, but if there’s a hint of your underwear then personally I’d steer clear!

SO MUCH MONEY, HONEY

Money doesn’t necessarily buy the best activewear and that’s super important to remember. Just because a pair of leggings cost £250 and look great, does not mean they’re going to be right for your needs. There are SO many reasonably priced brands out there now on the high street, that are technically brilliant and look awesome. At the same time though, don’t scrimp on your activewear. That way you’ll avoid the above see-through-ness and your kit will last longer.

SHOP FOR YOUR SPORT

Sometimes if I’m honest I totally ignore this, as I might reeeeaaaally like a bra that’s meant to running and team it with some leggings for yoga. Oh well. If, however you plan on doing the reverse and wearing a yoga bra for running, then you might want to think about about the effect that impact and lack of support will be having on your lady lumps.

    Hello!
At the moment I am looking for a no-see-through pants for a reasonable price – anyone has any suggestions?
I have tried all Adidas they had in shop – all see through, I have tried all Nikes and only 1 (!!!) was alright which I ended up buying, but now I need new ones and thought of you who really really cares about pants that are not see through, haha.

I am not really a fan of buying gym pants online because of this issue but maybe I will have no choice! Can anyone please help?

    P.S. love your snapchat!!!

Lorna Jane are great and I’ve never had issues with them being see-through. Dharmabums are the same, never any problems. I’ve also got some Reebok ones which are priced really well and aren’t see-through. :) x

The first tip is brilliant, and I think the last tip is so important! Hurts to see ladies kick butt at the gym in the wrong type of sport bra, as I personally find yoga tops do not give enough support and make the workout uncomfortable! I recently lost some weight and all my bras are too big now – should see it as a great opportunity to shop amahhhzing sports clothes, but unfortunately budget-wise getting everything all at once is not possible… Just have to be patient I guess :) Thanks for the great blog and really inspirational snapchat, too! :)

I totally agree, it’s so important to be wearing the right bra, especially when running or doing high intensity workouts. Have fun shopping! H&M do some pretty decent quality stuff at a good price. :) x

Great advice, I especially like the bending down idea! I actually wore a pair of leggings that were slightly too big the other day (I didn’t realise at the time) and went running in them, bad mistake! I was holding them up at the waistband whilst I was running! It was a nightmare!

I hate that! I’ve had that so many times with leggings for running. Maybe we could all start jogging on the spot in the changing rooms! xx
