What books should you be reading?

best books 2017

Seeing as today is World Book Day, it seems like a good day to tell you about some of the books I love, the reasons I read and also why it’s ok to read what YOU want to read. Let’s celebrate the best books 2017. It wouldn’t be a modern world without an annoying slither of judgement every now and again and where something like reading should be applauded no matter the book title, sometimes it isn’t.

I’m not ashamed to say that apart from Anastasia Steele’s inner goddess ruining a few good moments, I hardly hated the 50 Shades of Grey books, seeing as I read all three of them in about three weeks. And why should I be ashamed? Because some think it’s distasteful? Because it’s so popular and therefore not cool? Because it’s not feeding my brain on an intellectual level? I’m sorry, and pardon the swearing, but who gives a sh*t. If you’re reading, taking time away from the phone and laptop screens we spend so much of our lives in front of and you’re enjoy whatever it is you’re reading then go you! It’s so important for us to take time away from computers and phones and what better way to do that than dive into a good book.

I would be lying if I told you I sat with my head in a yoga philosophy book or anatomy book every night before I fall asleep. That doesn’t mean I don’t love books like that, I really do, but what I want to get across in this blog post is that it’s ok to read what YOU love and not feel like you’re not good enough by not reading the ‘right’ type of book. Whatever that is.

I LOVE a thriller or crime/action book. They are the ones that take me away into a story and I love that feeling of not wanting to put it down. Recently I’ve developed a new habit and that’s to have two books on the go at once. Crazy, I know! But hear me out. Where one might be a bedtime thriller, the other will be something I can learn from or about something I want to study. You’ll see from the photos what’s on my bookshelf; I don’t stick to just one type of book, I like to get my paws on lots of different types. So far it’s working because I’m not mixing stories due to the books being totally different.

I just finished reading Orphan X (loved it!) and am now reading Sapiens. These couldn’t be more different, but I love both. I actually just lent Orphan X to my mum hence why you can’t see it in the photo. The others on my shelf are my best books 2017, books I’ve read that I massively recommend. Enjoy!

Happy World Book Day! Go forth and read whatever makes you happy!
